I want to thank you for being such an amazing teacher
because if I hadn't come to Moving Arts then I wouldn't be where I am
right now. Thank you!
:: Alex Potts, former Moving
Arts Dance student,
currently at Walnut Hill Performing Arts School
She is so grateful that she has been with you this
past 1.5 years… Thank you for the positive feedback you provided Sarah
yesterday… Your kind and genuine comments help her a lot.
:: Linda Gledhill, current student’s parent
Sarah finally mastered a movement that you have been
working with her on. She was asked to demo it at (summer camp)
class! She was very excited. I am thrilled she is moving in your
direction and I feel very comfortable that she will obtain her dance
goals under your guidance.
:: Linda Gledhill, current student’s parent
She was thrilled by your compliments on her pique turns
yesterday and came home more energized than when she went to class.
Thanks again for the Nut/Cracked opportunity! Sarah loved it.
:: Linda Gledhill, current student’s parent
What a beautiful recital! I would love to have them
in class with you a little this summer …I'm sure they'll love it. We
would also like a DVD of the recital if you have any extra because they
like to watch ballet videos sometimes and I'd like to show my husband
what a great school it is!
:: Monica Burke, prospective family
Abbey *loved* her lessons with you last week.
She's had her ballet DVD out every day since, and I think we're going to
install a ballet bar and mirror for her. She is crazy about ballet
-- and I am sure your patience and teaching has a lot to do with that.
Thank you for that! :-)
:: Janice Pacl, current student’s parent
Anyone that really knows you is aware of how good you
are to your dancers -- careful and thoughtful and loving. It is
because of your abilities as a mentor & teacher and as a fabulous dancer
that Abbey is so in love with dancing. We think you are great --
so keep that in mind too!!! :-)
:: Very best, Janice Pacl, current student's parent
I wish all the best for you in your life and
business. I thank you for everything you have done for
Rachel - for the encouragement and knowledge and love of dance you have
imparted to her. I have really enjoyed getting to see your work
and your dancers' work over these past 1 1/2 years. Take
care.
:: Sincerely, Alison Bromberg

I first learned about Kate Cross 6 or 7 years
ago. I was at an Earth Day Parade in Concord with my toddler twins. A 50
something woman in a big hat was handing out pink flyers saying if you
want the best ballet teacher ever, Kate Cross was it. Several years
later when my daughter was ready to dance, I found Kate at her studio in
West Concord. My daughter, along with some other pre-schoolers
started dancing with Kate four years ago. Some of the advanced dancers
have been with Kate for as many as five years. They come here 4 and 5
days a week from Concord, Acton, Boxboro, Sudbury and Leominster. Kate
also has a following of students from Harvard. They have been with Kate
since she opened her studio here almost 4 years ago. The school now has
80 students, 10 of which are adults. As always, Kate Cross and
Moving Arts has produced an afternoon of beauty, grace and dance. This
is not your typical dance recital with sequins and Rockette type
costumes. Kate Cross produces a playbill of new and seasoned performers
from the age of 4 through to 17 years. The afternoon commenced
with the four year old Creative Movement class dressed in lilac leotards
with matching dance skirts. The young ladies were poised as they
displayed their new found sense of control and movement flexing
their feet, moving their arms and hands in a poetic display. They
then featured their creativity as they danced free form across the stage
in the Star Dance and Circus Dance. The Primary Part One dancers
were veteran performers of one year. Dressed in pink leotards with long
tulle tutus, they delighted the audience as they danced across the stage
in Parallel Jumps, Tendus, the Snow Globe Dance and the Patner Dance.
Last year these young ladies were just learning about moving as Creative
Movement students. The recital went on to performances by
the individual classes of Ballet One, Ballet Two and Teen Ballet
students. Their training was evident as they displayed several years of
dance and discipline under the direction of Ms. Cross. Their development
as dancers is a joy to watch. The Modern dance students were
amazing as they moved with agility across the stage. Each group from the
Children's Modern to the Advanced Beginning Teen Modern to the Advanced
Modern, captivated the audience with a display of modern movement
followed by a choreographed piece by each group of dancers. The
senior dancers preformed last. I see a camaraderie amongst these dancers
that is evident as they move across the stage with artistry, strength
and refinement. It was hard to believe that the oldest is 17 years old.
They move like seasoned performers rather than teenage dance students.
One parent remarked to me that she had just seen a dance performance in
NYC and didn't find it any more advanced than what these dancers are
doing. Kate Cross studied ballet through the Royal Academy of
Dance syllabii at a satellite school from the London School in Boxford,
MA. She started modern at the age of 17 at Concord Academy and began
performing for a professional modern company, Spencer/Colton as
well as the Nashua Ballet. She was a dance major who graduated with
honors, mangna cum laude, phi beta kapa at Connecticut College. She
went on to NYC and danced professionally there for almost four years as
a member of Douglas Dunn and Dancers, as a soloist for Rebudal Dance
Group and as a dancer in many other New York based groups. She has
danced for Boston choreographer Marcus Schulkind for many years as well
as for Nicole Pierce in Boston for three years.
